Den britiske marinen hadde fått beskjed om å gå til krig mot Irak allered i 2002, altså åtte måneder før parlamentets godkjenning.
On the eve of the release of the Chilcot Report, Lord Admiral West, former Commander-in-Chief of Fleet of the British Royal Navy in the lead up to the Iraq war, revealed to Channel 4 News that in July 2002, a full eight months before British Parliamentary approval for the invasion of Iraq, he was told «by someone very high up…that we would be invading Iraq».
Lord West was not invited to give evidence to the Chilcot inquiry.
