Latest UK GDP data even worse than it looks
The latest release for British GDP in the 3rd quarter was unrevised – but the composition of that growth was awful. GDP rose by 0.5% in the quarter and is just 0.5% higher than a year ago. But analysis of the components of growth suggests the outlook is deteriorating. Les mer.
Desperate Osborne’s Subsidies to Businesses Won’t Work
George Osborne has told the BBC that there will be £40bn in ‘credit easing’ so that small firms can obtain both cheaper and more readily available loans. Osborne has called the scheme a ‘game-changer’. Les mer.
US investment strike
The latest revision of US GDP for Q3 2011 also revealed another rise in corporate profits. According to the official data, corporate profits are now at an all-time high in nominal terms at $1977bn (after adjustments), or nearly 20% above the peak in Q3 2006 before the financial crash. Les mer.
